Esther came to work with me in 1999. She walked into the office on her first day, smart and organised. I looked around my typical engineers office with drawings and files strewn all over the tables. She looked around, smiled and said 2 things before I got a word in: :“I really don’t know if i can do this job, i have not done anything like it before” then “You do know that this place is in a right ravel!, you need some serious organisation”.I laughed long & loud, and so as quickly as that the ice was broken, none ever reformed, It goes without saying (if you knew her), that for the next 12 years neither the office or I were ever “in a ravel” again. In all of those years, never once was there a single crossed word, well, she was from Paisley after all, so I knew better! It's not possible to think about her and not have Jim in your mental picture too. In some ways they were as starkly different as a Ying/Yang image, but still the perfect blend. Jim passed in 2022. They and the family became friends over the years, as they in turn did with my family and friends from far and wide. We had so many caleidhs over the years, Jim was often the worse for wear at evening’s end, while Esther was always in her element surrounded by people, demonstrating that gift of naturally putting all at their ease. They were generous, caring and kind. Traits passed directly onto the family, who cared for Esther in an exceptional way in her final years, making sure that she stayed in the home she loved and was so prouid of.. Perhaps somer will read this having never met either, all I can say is that sometimes you'll meet people who are selfless, dedicated and compassionate, From them we learn the best of life's lessons, and hopefully carry those forward in our own lives. The few like them inspire, as E&J did for me and I will be forever grateful for that. We will all miss them terribly, yet I will smile reflecting on so many great times we all shared..
